My Introduction : Keeping up with Life

Hello everyone, my name is Maritza, and it's been a long while since I posted, but here I am again. I had originally started this blog when I was going into the world of baking, which I love, and I self taught on a lot of techniques, and well it makes me happy. Who doesn't love a fluffy cake with fluffy buttercream icing....Ok ok...back on track LOL, I have a lot of stories to tell, specifically how life gets in the way. Hence the title to this post. During the past 2 years I have returned to the workforce in corporate America, only to find that aside from the friendships that I have created, it is not all it is cracked up to be. Money and moving up the ladder may seen enticing to some, but somehow it lacks luster. Many put their family and social life aside, and power to them if that is their goal. Then again we are all different in what we want. On another note, I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Migraines, Fibromyalgia, and a number of other suprising and unwelcome conditions. This really put a damper in my quality of life, but put things into perspective. It only took a year for all the symptoms to completely turn around what was once my life. I used to be able to participate in 5k races to raise funds for a number of issues, or walk in the park with my family, go to the GYM?? Silent and invisible illnesses that many do not understand or are afraid to question. Unless you are going through something, it is hard to understand just how much it takes out of a person. So remember next time you are with others, and there are people smiling, there is more than meets the eye. So let's be kind to each other and not judge, for we do not know what we cannot see. That is my intro for now, and I will rename this blog "Keeping up with Maritza". Because... that is what I am doing now. I hope to reach others with my blog, and please feel free to share your stories with me as I take you along for the joyride. My goal in life now is to enjoy it because as a wise person once said "Life is worth living".

Until next time.

Botox for Migraines Round 1

Hello fellow readers! I had my first round of Botox for Chronic Migraines today. I had mixed feelings about the whole situation,  with everything you can find online when reading reviews,  it's hard not to want to "head for the hills!" I currently deal with a laundry list of conditions that affect my quality of life.  Invisible Illnesses most do not understand and others are quick to judge or critique out of fear or just.... Got diagnosed  with Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis....yes I am young....and yes I have tried this and that.  I have been dealing with Chronic migraines at the top my list, lasting 15 to 20 days! Hence why I decided to give Botox a try. The whole treatment took 20 minutes max. You walk in and meet the Dr. or Nurse (make sure they are experienced with Botox for migraines and are not cosmetic professionals...YES it makes a difference!) You will get asked questions about the frequency of your migraines,  severity, etc. Th...

Introduction

Hi everyone welcome to my blog. As an introduction I am a self-taught baker, cook, pastry chef, etc, etc. Most of my knowledge comes from hands on experience or if I simply feel like learning how to cook something I go at it. I am always watching the cooking channel and my extreme desire would be to participate in either a baker's challenge or a cook off with Bobby Flay. For that I need to really master a dish!  Thank you for taking the time to read this blog and I will make things interesting. Welcome to the interesting world of The Self-Taught Chef!
